About the painting:
This painting was inspired by a series of plein air paintings at James River Park's "Pony Pasture" in Richmond Virginia. This section of the park was so-named because at one time the land-owners in the area would let their ponies graze along the river bank. I love the trees along this stretch of the riverbank with their twisted and exposed roots, so weathered but still enduring. Although in Richmond much of the river flows through the heart of urban life, it teems with all of the beauty gifted to us by the natural world. When life gets crazy, I love coming down to the tranquil river to help me refresh my spirit and find my balance. In nature, there is harmony.
