Upping the Ante

It’s been a while since I’ve listed a new “Art for Food” auction for the Central Virginia FoodBank, so I’m upping the ante by listing a new acrylic painting. This is a 7 day auction with an opening bid of $24.99. This one does have a low reserve ($50) but it’s still a bargain and 95% of the proceeds go to the FoodBank.

It’s been a while since I’ve worked in acrylic and I had a lot of fun with this one. I’m listing this one in the evening because I’m heading out for most of the day on Friday to do some plein air painting. Have a great weekend!

  1. Jennifer,

I would like to see a brief essay on the pro’s and con’s of acrylic’s and oils. Consider in the writing things like, outdoors use , brush types, mediums, etc. and etc. Try to keep it under 1000 words. Something smart now. I think I may have something on the Petermanesque Soltek travel drama. You first.

  2. Jennifer,

Rick asks so much! Your acrylic looks lovely and I can’t tell from the photo any difference from oil. But from my experience, there is a luminosity to the oil paint that can’t be accomplished with acrylic. The advantage with acrylic’s for me is, because they dry so fast, it is easier to keep the colors fresh and pure. The downside is ,because they dry so fast, blending is difficult.
How was your plein air painting on Friday? Thanks to your encouragement, I got out “there” myself on Friday. Great experience!

  3. Rick,
Throwing down the gauntlet again, eh? Okay, I’ll bite. Stay tuned.

Marilyn, plein air got delayed due to personal reasons, but at least I managed to get some gardening in before the rain set in. Gray day today, (good for garden, not so good for plein air) so I’ll need to wait for a clearing later this week. Glad to see you got yourself “out there” and were inspired and energized by the experience! :-)
