Well, we’re packing up early in the wake of hurricane Hannah. There is no real danger expected here on Hatteras, but since we’re losing a beach day and were scheduled to leave by 10 a.m. tomorrow any way, we figured we’d get ahead of whatever storm remains and avoid loading the car in the rain.
Makes me all the happier that I stayed late on the beach last night to watch the beautiful show on display in the twilight sky:

“Last Stroll, Twilight”
This late evening light is my absolute favorite time to be out painting en plein air. The challenge is that the light changes very quickly. So really, I just concerned myself with capturing the essence of the scene- the beautiful warmth of the sky and sand, the soft violet haze that ran along the distant horizon, and the silhouette of the line of beach houses beyond the dunes. What a nice way to end a beautiful week.

We always try to go in September. For us, the risk of hurricanes is outweight by the beauty of this time of year.
You just get better and better! This “Last Stroll” is wonderful! You DID capture the essence of the time of day. Just a gorgeous sky and so hard to do this!!!!! I’m very impressed. Your painting of your friends reading is very reminiscent of the Impressionists. You go, girl!

Having a beautiful week to lounge and paint at whim sure made it easy to do some fun little pieces. I really enjoyed doing these pieces–especially the figurative one. It’s been a while, but it helped me to decide to get back into the human figure in a more serious way. I’m not so sure my Soltek easel had such a good time though. I can hear the sand grinding around in the legs! 
Hopefully a good washing will get it back in top form, but we will see!
I saw a movie once, it could have been “From here to Eternity” or something in that style. Some people were on the beach, and the sand got everywhere! It happens.
You’re right Rick. Sand happens. And sadly so does Soltek RX. Let’s hope I can fix this little problem without having to send it back for another “tuneup”.
Stunning! This is so inspiring. We’ve been having some gorgeous sunsets here in Elgin this past week. I’ve really been wanting to get out and paint. However, my evenings have been full working on the gallery. But perhaps I’ll be able to get out in a few days…best of luck on your easel!
