Being from Virginia, the South is where I call home. So it is a subject I naturally find myself painting again and again. The Southern landscape offers rounded mountains, beautiful springtime blossoms, winding wetlands and romantic palms. While I love to travel, I'm finding I don't have to go far to find wonderful subjects to paint.

About the Painting: According to some news reports, in 2004 there were some 2000 wild chickens roaming the streets of Key West. The city then voted to reduce the chicken population by half by catching them and taking them to a farm. Of course, I do not have to live amongst the chickens, so I can understand the residents' complaints about overpopulation, but still, I am glad to know that some chickens continue to roam free down there, because it is such a symbol of the whole funky Key West vibe. I hope you enjoy viewing this piece as much as I enjoyed painting it!
