This is an original 5x7” gouache painting painted on archival cotton 140 lb. cold-pressed watercolor paper, matted out to 8x10” using all acid-free materials. Gouache is a medium best described as opaque watercolor and should be framed under glass.
About the painting:
This piece recalls a painting trip I took to Floyd County, Virginia. I set up to paint on the banks of the Little River and made some quick sketches and photos of this view of the early morning mist rising up over the mountains. I went on to paint a different view looking downstream, but I revisited this scene back in my studio from memory and the sketches and photos I made on site.
