The Outer Banks of North Carolina is my “happy place”. In fact, it has been the place for fun and renewal for both myself and my family for a number of years. As my daughter grows older and I work and travel more frequently, this special place on the Carolina shores becomes like a beacon of hope and rejuvenation in our lives. So on these trips I am sometimes reticent bring my work and my “official” plein air oil painting kit. But when the moment calls, it is still helpful to have something to catch that inspirational twinge. :-) So on my last “all-play-no-work” trip (which was dearly needed, by the way) I couldn’t resist throwing in a very pared down, unintimidating art kit into my luggage for some creative play. It just so happened the skies and clouds were wonderful that beach week, so a little gouache experimentation was exactly the ticket.
